First Grade Students and their parents, Due to many requests over the past years, the Royalty Program has changed the way we select our Junior Candidates. In the past, we had only allowed the first 10 girls and 10 boys to call in, to be added to the candidate list. We want to allow ALL children interested the opportunity to try out for the Junior Royalty Court. If you are interested in having your child participate in this process, please follow the instructions below.
Guidelines to participate include: Jr. Candidates must reside in the Albertville, St. Michael or Otsego area. Candidates must attend school in the STMA district and must be in the 1st grade. Each candidate is required to attend the Interview and Selections process to be considered as a finalist. Parents of candidate finalists must be willing to commit to the busy schedule of the royal court, should your child be selected at coronation.
The Interview and Selection of the Candidate Finalists will take place on Saturday, March 5th. Check-in will begin at Noon sharp in the lobby of Albertville City Hall. Parents do not stay with their child during this event. Depending on how many children participate, we expect it to take between 2 ½ to 3 hours. Be sure your child has had lunch before arriving as only a snack will be provided midway through the selection process. NOTE: to have your child participate in this event, you must follow the directions below so the committee knows who is attending.
Finalists will be selected on poise, personality, speaking ability and how they interact with their peers. Your child will have a fun-filled afternoon of meeting new friends, playing games and coloring. They will also get to meet and play with the current Miss Albertville, both Princesses and the 4 Junior Royalty Members throughout the finalist selection day. Each child will be observed during the course of the event and will have a 3-5 minute interview with a small panel of judges. The candidate finalist names will be posted on the royalty website by Monday, March 7th. Please note: ONLY the Candidate Finalists selected and named in the website will continue on and vie for the Junior Royalty titles.

On March 5th we held the Jr. Candidate Interviews: if your child was selected as a Candidate Finalist that day, he or she will get to participate in some fun Candidate Finalists Events: A bowling party at River Lanes, the Candidate Style Show, they will eat and help serve the community at the Royal Spaghetti Dinner & they will ride in the Albertville Friendly City Days Parade on a BIG Long Haul Flatbed Truck (ALL the children that attend the Jr. Candidate Interview’s are invited to ride in the parade alongside the selected Candidate Finalists.)
Following the Friendly City Days Parade, the 2011 Albertville Royalty Coronation will take place at the new Performing Arts Center at the new High School. There, the selected Candidate Finalists will participate in the Coronation of the new Royal Court and the 4 juniors chosen by the panel of judges will be announced! (Please note that if at any time during the candidate finalist program, you or your child should decide this is not for them, you may alert the Program Director to instruct the judges not to select your child as a part of the Royal Court).
If your child were to be selected as a Junior Court Member, they along with Miss Albertville & the Princesses will enjoy fun parades, help with community service projects within Albertville & St. Michael and they are invited to attend the Minnesota Twins Ambassador Day and get to be introduced on the field! They also get a $ 50.00 gift card at the end of the year! To free up the kid’s summer a bit, only 2 juniors are required to attend most parades at one time. Once crowned, the junior families review the parade schedule and sign up for dates that work for each family, taking equal turns attending the parade set in place.
This program is a fun way to be active in and around your community, but it also builds confidence and self esteem among the youth that participate!
If your child is selected as a court member on Coronation day, please know that parental participation is crucial within this program. Parents of the selected children should be willing and committed to following through with the schedule put in place.
